Kicking off on 29th June 2019, The Hague African Festival (THAF) invites an incredibly diverse audience to celebrate culture, music and art through five distinct events, combining to create a month-long festival. The events will take place in prestigious venues around the city, giving spectators and visitors an opportunity to explore and embrace the atmosphere of The Hague, in African style.

Having celebrated the 10th year of the festival in 2018, this year’s edition aims to exceed the record-breaking audience of the Jubilee Edition. With musical performances from some of the Africa’s biggest names: Sauti Sol, Ba Cissoko and more, a fashion showcase by Mafcouture, the Afro-Dutch heritage has been a recurring theme for the festival and will continue to be a highlight at this edition of the festival.

Starting off with a talent showcase on the 8th of June, the community is invited to present their talents, be it through music, acting, poetry or comedy! Following a selection round, the eventual winner will be chosen to perform on the main stage at the closing event of the festival. African Expo, the annual exposition will take place, from the 1st to the 12th of July. This year the theme for the expo is: Music as a Communication Tool and will be organised in collaboration with the Topaze Foundation. Displayed at Atrium in the Hague, the exposition aims to impress upon the great importance of music in the culture and communication in Africa.

To round off the festival, THAF will host another bumping edition of Africa on the Beach, on 6th July at the famous Scheveningen strand. Together with Jollove Events, this beach party promises the best of African barbecue and beats; a perfect combination for a sunny summer afternoon.

The final event for this edition will be AfroBeats in the Park; the name says it all! With two stages featuring incredible performances by musicians and DJs from all over the African continent. This year’s headlining act is none other than the multi-award-winning Afro-Pop group Sauti Sol from Kenya! Also prominent are DJs and Afrobeats experts Austin J and DJ Erick, taking on the Wakanda stage for a bumping start and finish to the day!

THAF offers many opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and occupations to get involved in the festivities. Head over to the official website for more information on all the events, artists and locations. Stay informed via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
